The dynamic braided river system is home to a large variety of flora and fauna species - both endemic and introduced. The River catchment also supports a number of recreational values including angling, hunting, jet boating, kayaking, and eel fishing.
The Waitaki Irrigators Collective is made up five irrigation schemes and an irrigators' society, totalling 580 irrigators over 75,000 hectares across North Otago and South Canterbury. This is approximately 12% of irrigated land in New Zealand!
We are committed to the social and economic development of the community. WIC is therefore undertaking to support various community good, recreation enhancement, and environmental projects in North Otago and South Canterbury, through a dedicated fund.
